- Otta Swire's "Skye: The Island & Its Legends" - Full of great tales, organised geographically which is useful on a visit to the island.
- Alasdair Alpin MacGregor's "Over the Sea to Skye" - Travelogue, history and folktales written almost 100 years ago - it's wonderful.
- Seton Gordon's "The Charm of Skye" - Some history and many experiences written by the great naturalist in the 1920s.
For hillwalking, scrambling and hiking, I think there's nothing to better Ralph Storer's "Skye - walking, scrambling and exploring"
Heavier reading, but quite fascinating is Alexander Nicolson's "History of Skye"
And if you want to know about the ghosts, witches, fairies, water horses and devils that inhabit this island, you'll enjoy the excellent "Guide to Mysterious Skye and Lochalsh" by Geoff Holder
